Beachcombing

The BBC documentary 'Message in The Waves' is a powerful and beautiful film that shows the devastating impact of human waste on marine life. The film can be borrowed from the local One World group (email us for details).

The problem affects Jersey too. A one and a half hour pick up at Bonne Nuit Bay on 29 March 2008 produced: one fridge door, one barrel bucket, two plastic sacks, fibreglass and two shopping bags worth of plastic waste.

The Marine Conservation Society's 'Adopt A Beach' scheme operates a fantastic website that gives information on the Top 10 beachcomber finds, where they came from and much more.

This part of the site will allow you to archive photos of your beachcombing finds. This will help us look at how beach finds change over time. The photos will also provide evidence for action.

Please post photos of your own beach clean to the Flickr group at http://www.flickr.com/groups/jsybeachcombers/

To upload to flickr you will need your own account. Upload using the 'You' tab and use the 'Groups' tab to search for 'jsybeachcombers'. Alternatively, e-mail your photos to us and we will do it for you!
